A diverse skillset.

Prototype development & iteration.

As an architect, I built many prototypes of the buildings we designed in the form of 3d digital models. Designing these models was a highly iterative process in which frequent adjustments were made to respond to design criteria, client input, and construction realities.

Similarly, in designing the Making Good App, feedback gained from testing my prototype with users informed several design decisions to adjust the organization and graphics of the quiz flow.

Managing complex team dynamics.

UX designers work with project managers, stake holders, and software engineers, as do architects- only the team is working on a physical product instead of a digital one.

I have managed nuanced team dynamics between the client, engineers, and construction team, including being proactive to difficulties in communication, and clarification in responsibility and scope- all the while looking out for the good of the client and the project.

Design communication.

In any design industry, the importance of communicating design thinking to all members of the team is crucial to keeping a project on track.

During construction of a 7 story apartment building in San Francisco, I clearly explained to the construction team the design thinking behind the chosen colors on the building facade. Even though they eventually painted the building the wrong colors, they immediately recognized their mistake and provided a solution instead of having to go through a finger pointing battle.

Systematic thinking.

In designing any building, I have had to consider not just the architectural elements, but also the plumbing, electrical, structural and landscape systems that contribute to a design.

This systematic thinking is incorporated into my UX design process understanding that any design is part of larger product system that needs to integrate seamlessly in terms of design, business and development capability.
